Atheists Going for the Jugular and Religion Fighting Back

I am reflecting on my last post - Matthew Parris’ article, Africa Needs Christianity. I can’t help thinking of Richard Dawkins - both Parris and Dawkins are atheists but what such contrasting attitudes towards Christianity, as is noted by some of the comments that follow Parris’ article in The Times.  I came across this combined review of Dawkins and McGrath in the Adventist Review by associate editor, Roy Adams. It was the title that grabbed my attention - and so apt a description of Dawkins and his fellow militant atheist writers, “Atheists Going for the Jugular and Religion Fighting Back”

Adams cites McGrath, “It’s a conscious, calculated effort on Dawkins’ part-an “epic struggle against religion,” McGrath calls it (McGrath, p. 51). Dawkins sees science and religion “locked in a battle to the death. Only one can emerge victorious-and it must be science” (McGrath, p. 46). His goal is “the intellectual and cultural destruction of religion” (McGrath, p. 24). He thrusts to kill-to finish Christianity off once and for all. And he’s going for the jugular.”
