It seems to me the Darwin Bicentenary will never remove the conflict over origins - it will only make them more polarised. But what about what should be taught children in the classroom? Should creationism be taught along with evolution or creation or/and Intelligent Design? I think this question by an atheist parent is sensitive to both sides of the issue.
The interactions to the article that follow include some sensible responses - but also the intolerant ones - on both sides. I have never caught on to the claim that the final arbiter in the conflict should be the authority of the tax-payer - as if one set of parents (creationist or/and ID) don’t pay their taxes? And then there are those deliberately demeaning statements that suggest only the unthinking and unintelligent hold a view of origins from the biblical source whereas - while still in the minority - there are thousands of academics and scientists who hold to the Christian view of origins. I think children of both sides deserve respect in the classroom. I think Kevin Logan has done a good job for an impartial review of the issue for schools as anyone for a simple introduction. Here is a useful review here.
