A Reply to: Dawkins’ Manx Shearwater
When Richard Dawkins in TGD ridicules Christians who claim to have had an experience with God he doesn’t show that he has grasped the concept or understands what that means in his pub talk illustration of the Manx Shearwater. When Christians refer to having an experience with God they usually refer to something that is life-changing - or what Matthew Parris refers to as ‘a change of heart’ - which cannot be explained other than by a supernatural experience - something that changes personal values that radically affects attitudes and behaviour in a positive and constructive way that benefits other people more than themselves. The Erica Kim story is an outstanding story but a good illustration of what it means to have a ‘Change of Heart’, or an experience with God.
“How did a Buddhist girl raised in New York City grow up to become a moving force in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic Christian ministries? Only through the grace of God,” says Christianity Today.
