Darwin’s Bicentenary is drawing responses from opposing views on origins - up and down the country I suppose. I can only speak for Weston-super-Mare’s vibrant Christian Community . But a recent survey showed that belief in Creationism is widespread in the UK.
“Was Darwin Right?” is the topic for an origin’s presentation at Holy Trinity Church beginning 7.00 pm on 12 May with Monty White and Geoff Chapman.
This Week - “Creation Speaks” is a three-day presentation by three scientists from different disciplines from Wednesday through to Friday at 7.00 pm at Locking Road Seventh-day Adventist Church. Two scientists involved - Colin Mitchell in “Creation Speaks” and Monty White in “Was Darwin Right?” are contributors to the widely advertised book, In Six Days, a compilation of essays on origins by 50 scientists. As one reviewer said, “The authors of this volume are but a tiny sample of professional scientists who are creationists, and amply refute the evolutionists’ frequent charge that no serious scientist rejects evolution.” It is downloadable so you can get an interesting read of the profiles and essays by Monty White and Colin Mitchell as well as the rest of the 50 scientists.
It is often trotted out by the secular media that faith and science are in opposing camps - so why do I read of so many scientists who are also ardent Christians? Considered to be the father of Intelligent Design and the source of inspiration for their current work, the late A.E. Wilder-Smith had three science doctorates. Although in a minority there are known to be thousands of scientists who, after 150 years, see Darwinism as a failed explanation for our origins - hence the growth in the Creation and Intelligent Design movements. Dr. William Dembski, has published articles in mathematics, philosophy, and theology and is viewed as a leading light in the Intelligent Design movement. “According to Dembski, every worldview involves a creation story, a problem, a solution for that problem and an expected culmination.” Dembski gives a brief summary of the Christian faith in one paragraph: “For Christians, this involves a world created by a wise God and marred by the sinfulness of man. As the solution to sin, the Son of God entered the world as Jesus Christ and died for the redemption of man. In the end, Christ will return and the creation will be renewed.” Reported on this link his presentation was given on Darwin’s 200th birthday on a Baptist campus.
