Genesis and Theories of Evolution

“The big takeaway from Genesis is that the magnificent works of creation are not the products of some step-wise, glacial process of nature and necessity, but of an abrupt outpouring of divine intent and power. It is a repeated pattern. Throughout the sweep of scripture, God’s creative, curative, and miraculous works come suddenly and completely, not in partial instalments over geological time frames. With a command, a touch, a word, the universe is birthed, man is formed, a sea is parted, the blind see, the deaf hear, the sick healed, and a Savoir raised.”

The subject of origins and the opening chapters of Genesis is the big debate nowadays. Some views on origins are so bizarre you have to smile. But I stopped at this paragraph while reading ‘Theories of Evolution’. Whatever one’s view on origins this exegesis on Genesis and what is subsequently expressed in the literature of the Bible is compelling. The article is by Regis Nicoll.
