Matthew Parris OTT Over St Teresa’s Bones

Why was Matthew Parris so OTT over St Teresa’s bones? Why the call to atheists (or militant atheists) for all out war on religion? Having read Matthew Parris quite a bit over the years I know he is as well read in the Bible and Christian teaching as most, even if one does not agree with his interpretations or conclusions. He wrestled with Bible teachings at a young age at university and provides evidence of a familiarity with both Old and New Testaments. This showed in his Comment published in The Times 9th August 2003. Parris would know the difference between what was a practices that arose in the church in medieval times and what one will not find in the Bible - certainly not the revering of relics or bones of any of God’s saints of ancient times or of saints of more recent history. I wonder if Parris is in self-denial? His call for all-out war does not square with his more objective report on real Christianity in The Times, 27 December 2008. More on this in the next post.
